Stripped

Hey all, been a while since I updated this but its been pretty boring just dismantling everything. So far have stripped it down to the chassis and still have to remove the axles and brake lines. Pulled a lot of dirt from between the tank and frame but luckily just a bit of surface rust. I think the layer of clay on it protected it! Otherwise everyrhing looks pretty good and not a lot of work but who knows what may be under the paint. Once the chassis is absolutely bare I will cut off some of the mods the previous owner has added like battery mounts under the tray. Then I will strip and paint the chassis and start rebuilding!

Split roof

Last night I succeeded in splitting the two parts of the roof. The rust isn't ridiculously bad and is all easily fixable but I'm glad I did this as there is quite a bit. Next job is to strip it of paint sand away the rust and prime it. Then I'll move onto the bonnet.

Rust!

As I have continued to strip the seam sealer and rubber off the roof and bonnet I have uncovered a small amount of rust. The CJ10s were electroplated with zinc so there isn't a huge amount. The braces running around the edge of the roof which are spot welded on have some surface rust internally. Likewise the braces along the underside of the bonnet have some rust. The front brace has a small section rusted through but should be repairable. Under the hinges also has rust and hopefully doesn't need replacing. Due to this I have bought a spot weld cutting bit and will be removing the braces to paint the inside and reseal. It adds more work but I know it won't rust again any time soon thanks to the work done now. I also bought paint stripper, metal cleaner and an etch primer so once I split these braces off I can get them ready for paint.

Over the last week or so have removed the roof and bonnet and stripped the insulation and rubber off them. Will continue to strip it down to the chassis and prepare it for paint. At this point I am planning to have the chassis galvanized before painting and am weighing up options for the body.

SD33T engine

Hey all. Found a good deal locally on a used SD33T and a 5 speed gearbox so have picked them up. The motor didn't come with much so will need to reuse my altenator, starter motor etc. It did come with the manifolds but they are in poor condition so will most likely replace them with custom units with a different turbo flange. I will also be using the gearbox (with its built in transfer case) to replace my T177 and NP208. This will result in a 5th gear with better ratios and a somewhat stronger gearbox. Plus easier and cheaper to find parts for. However this is assuming it fits comfortably in the transmission tunnel and the clutch can be adapted to the pedal.
Now it is registered I will begin stripping it down and will most likely start painting and designing parts for it, however due to a break down of my daily driver it is temporarily on hold.

Registration

After months of fixing little issues and organising inspections, today I got it registered in my name. This means I can finally get some real work done. First thing on the list is a new front driveshaft and to rebuild the gearbox. Cheers.

A little progress

Hey everyone. Progress remains slow due to final exams which started today. In some limited spare time the front diff has been removed to replace a ball joint, wheel bearing and pinion seal. Today I completed the pinion seal and begun to remove the first hub.
All parts have arrived except the shackle bushes and the speedometer cable is yet to be picked up.
In approximately two weeks my exams will be completed and work can continue at a much faster pace.
While cleaning it earlier I also found a little spider which has migrated to the shed, it has since disappeared, hopefully not back to the car.
